nomad story time

Our weekly children's story time is back, now on Thursday afternoons at 3:45pm. The first will be on Thursday 29th January. Story time is free; just turn up! Typically, we read 3 or 4 picture books, ideal for ages 2-6. Before or after the session, you are welcome to enjoy a hot drink from our cafe.

recent childrens events

Our event on Nov 29th with award winning author and illustrator Victoria Turnbull, presenting her debut picture book The Sea Tiger, went down a storm with the children!

Thanks to Ross Montgomery who, on Nov 8th, delighted children with a reading from his new book The Tornado Chasers and led a series of activities based around the theme of conquering fear.

Also thanks to Yuval Zommer for his reading from his lovely picture book The Big Blue Thing on the Hill, on Oct 11th.

We look forward to our event with picture book author and illustrator Victoria Turnbull on Nov 29th!

upcoming childrens events

Please see below for our calendar of children's author events, story times and activities from now until December. We're very excited to be hosting Yuval Zommer (The Big Blue Thing on the Hill, suitable 2-6yrs), Ross Montgomery (The Tornado Chasers, 7-11yrs) and Victoria Turnbull (The Sea Tiger, 2-6yrs). Also, look out for the brilliant inventive adventure, Jon Scieszka's Frank Einstein (7-9yrs, limited signed copies in the shop from Monday, call to reserve.)

There will be a few more things going on around Halloween, including a spooky drawing competition! Draw your favourite character from a scary story and drop it into the shop with the name of the character on the front, and your name and age on the back. Deadline Tues 28th October. Prizes to be won!

Please note also our weekly story time with Suki, every Friday 3:45pm.

All these events are free. No need to register—just turn up! But do feel free to call us to reserve your copies of the books.

The Second World War

Anthony Beevor and Artemis Cooper gave a fascinating talk on their writing partnership, hosted by Nomad at Fulham Library as part of Hammersmith and Fulham Arts Fest.

Charlie and Louise Mortimer had us all in stitches on the final evening of our Independent Booksellers Week this year as they shared their memories of their father with us and read from their books Dear Lupin and Dear Lumpy.

We had a dazzling modern bookclub earlier this July with award nominated author Louise Doughty, who was here to read and talk about her gripping new novel Apple Tree Yard.

The charasmatic and entertaining author S.J. Watson visited Nomad to discuss his best-selling book Before I go to Sleep, as well as writing novels, and getting a film deal.

Local author Artemis Cooper joined us to discuss her recent biography, Patrick Leigh Fermor: An Adventure. A fascinating evening all about the brilliant traveller and author who died in 2011. A great evening all-round!

In October last year, we were lucky enough to be joined by Rebecca Asher, author of the excellent Shattered: Modern Motherhood and the Illusion of Equality. What followed was an electrifying evening of discussion and debate about the state of motherhood - and fatherhood - in the UK today. A truly stimulating and enjoyable evening!

Legendary Bookseller Jen Campbell, compiler of Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops payed a special visit to Nomad , signing copies of her book and generally spreading joy!

The editor of the bestselling book Dear Lupin visited Nomad to do his first reading of the letters sent to him by his father Roger.

Charlie treated us to an exclusive evening in which he read some of his favourite letters and shared a few more anecdotes from his interesting life. A wonderful evening that secured Dear Lupin as Nomad's favourite read of the Summer!

Justin Cartwright's new book Other People's Money has been a riotous success at Nomad so we thought we would invite the author along to talk about and read from the book.

On a balmy May evening last year Justin read some of the more comic moments of the Other People's Money and answered many questions on his satirical style and the art of writing a State of the Nation novel.

Legendary cook Mary Berry kindly accepted our invitation two years ago to come and sign copies of her books at Nomad.

Nomad Books were the lucky third winners of the Telegraph Book Club competition, thanks to all the lovely commentsleft by our loyal customers!

On December the 9th, we proudly welcomed Ross Raisin, author of the fantastic God's Own Country, who read from his newest novel Waterline. He was joined by journalist and competition chairwoman Genevieve Fox, which resulted some fascinating and lively discussion.
